[Unshakeable]
The theme for the year focused on the fleeting and impermanent nature of time contrasted with the sturdy, permanence of memorials and touchstones we place in our own lives. These two ideas oppose each other and I wanted to convey these opposing ideas through the use of visual motifs and elements to consistently present the themes in the book. Since time itself is always passing, I decided to use feather and color gradients for title and other elements. This gave a softness to the words and hinted at a transition akin to smoke vanishing. However, to juxtapose the softness of the elements, I wanted to give the text brackets a presence to represent mountains representing the monumental moments of growth and change in our lives. In a similar manner, the photos and articles contained in the pages follow a grid giving the layout a strength and sturdiness, abstractly representing memorials of stacked stones and immovable mountains.
